India cancels visas to contain COVID-19 spread

India has suspended all visas for inbound travel, except diplomatic, official and a few other categories, as part of preventive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, said a report

"All current visas, with the exception of diplomatic, government, UN and other foreign organizations, jobs, project visas, are suspended until April 15," a WAM report citing a statement from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

The suspension will come into force at the point of departure from 1200 GMT on March 13, the study said Overseas Indian citizens (OCI) would also not be able to board planes bound for India until the visa suspension order is revoked.

At the same time, its government has advised Indians not to travel abroad. The authorities said Indians arriving at India's airports could be subject to quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure, the report said.
