Earlier, London Stansted's second long-haul Air India route took to the skies with the launch of a new three-time week service to Mumbai. The town is known as India's financial and entertainment hub.

The new Mumbai service, the first ever direct connection from London Stansted to India's largest city, joins the Amritsar route of the airline that started less than four months ago and has already proved to be extremely popular with passengers from all over London and east England. The route will be served by a 256-seat Boeing 787 Dreamliner and will initially operate until the end of the winter flight schedule.

London Stansted Chief Commercial Officer, Aboudy Nasser, said: "The introduction of Air India's new Mumbai service is a fantastic addition to London Stansted's route network and a strong vote of confidence in the airport and catchment area that we serve coming less than four months after the airline joined us for its inaugural Amritsar flight.

"Every year already 200,000 people travel from our area to India's economic hub, so with the added convenience of flying from their local airport saving precious time and money by avoiding other London airports, we expect this service to be extremely popular with passengers."
